Vintage & Viticulture

2014 vintage started with a below norm temperatures from January to April. May came in with more normal temperatures and allowed the vines to settle in. Most of the summer was cooler and wetter which resulted in slow and steady maturation. August and September was back to normal temperatures and allowed the fruit to ripen. Harvest was as late as 10 days.

Winemaker's Notes:

This lot of 100% Pinot Noir was harvested from a 4 acre vineyard block planted in 1987 adjacent to the Niagara River, midway between Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment. Grapes were harvested and fermented on the skins for 11 days. The wine was aged for 12 months in older barriques and allowed to age in stainless another 6 months. The allowed the tannins to soften and the fruit to open up.

Tasting Notes:

Light and dark cherry aromas on the nose with rosemary, earth and black pepper notes. A firm acidity on the palate makes this an excellent food wine.

Food Pairings:

A natural match with lamb, game and veal or serve chilled with salmon steaks and don’t forget to season with rosemary and black pepper for a perfect match.
