Vintage & Viticulture
2009 was an interesting vintage starting off cool with a wet summer and temperatures 2-3 degrees below normal. Once again the fall made the vintage, drier warm temperatures. This Riesling cuvee consists of the three major Riesling clones; Geisenheim, a classic Germanic clone, Weis and the 49B clone, a classic Alsatian clone. Vines range in age from 5 to 20 years.
Winemaker's Notes:
Grapes were harvested on Nov. 3, 10, 12 and grapes were allowed to rest on the skins for 4 hours before pressing. The juice was clarified using flotation technology and the fermentation followed a traditional slow cold ferment. Fermentation was completed in two weeks and wine is taken off lees quickly to maintain a fresh fruity style.
Tasting Notes:
Floral, subtle peach, green apple and lemon aromas are followed by tangerine and honeyed pear on the palate. Lush, fruit flavours are followed by a burst of citrus on the finish, with a hint of sweetness that rounds out the acidity.
Food Pairings:
Shellfish, white-fleshed fish, turkey, grilled chicken breast and lighter primaverastyle pasta dishes. Spicy, curried dishes and Asian-inspired cuisine such as sushi.
